Writer's picture: Catherine FranceCatherine France

January is always a time for planning and looking ahead to the coming year, unwrapping a new diary, filling in the key dates, and, dare I say, holidays (school ones, mainly!).

It might also be when you are thinking about starting your business blog or reviving an old one. SEO experts and marketers will confirm the benefits of regularly publishing new content on your website; a blog is a great way to do this.

I have created various resources to help you get started, including this edition of my newsletter, which gives you 12 insurance blog topics for 2025

12 Insurance Blog Topics for 2025;

January - Directors & Officers Insurance

February - Underinsurance

March - Small Business Needs Insurance

April - Insurance for Start-up Businesses

May - Insurance for Online Businesses and Bloggers

June - Liability Insurance

July - Benefits of an Insurance Broker

August - Cyber Insurance

September - Business Interruption Insurance

October - Managing Your Insurance Renewal

November - Professional Indemnity Insurance

December - Insurance for Unoccupied Properties

How to get started.

Let's assume we are writing our January blog on Directors and Officers Insurance to give you a feel for how I would get started.

First, I would think about a title. Here are some suggestions.

7 Things Everyone Needs to Know about Directors and Officers Insurance,

Directors & Officers Insurance Explained in Plain English,

10 Things you don't know about Directors and Officers Insurance but should

Everything Businesses Should Know About Directors & Officers Insurance

Next, I would think about the content. What do I want the reader to learn, and what action do I want them to take?

If this is a blog designed to inform and educate, I would then build a list of questions I would use as section headings (h2 in SEO speak!), for example.

What is Directors and Officers Insurance?

Who Needs to Buy Directors and Officers Insurance?

What can go wrong if I don't have Directors and Officers Insurance?

How Do I Buy Director's and Officers' Insurance?

How Much Does Directors and Officers Insurance Cost?

How Much Directors and Officers Insurance Do I Need?

What is and isn't covered by directors' and officers' insurance?

If you can answer these and add in any claims examples, client stories, or personal experiences, it will help bring your content to life for the reader. We want them to nod along and be ready to take action!

Finally, I would add a call to action. People need to be given clear next steps. Make sure you tell them what you want them to do next! (This has just given me an idea for the next edition!)

Here are another three tips to help you get going!

3 Tips to get your insurance blog started

  1. Pick a schedule you can stick to

There is no point in saying you’ll blog every week if you only blog every month, and it will likely put you off getting started! If it helps, schedule your writing time as a meeting you must attend. When you’re writing, switch off all distractions. It helps to move away from my desk and write elsewhere.

2. Short articles, 1,500 to 2,000 words, are getting the best results.

3. Treat the writing process like you would an email to a friend or client. I find this takes the pressure off, and the writing flows better. Remember, you can always edit it later.
